An inmate pleaded guilty to murdering a fellow inmate after he repeatedly beat him in the head with a cinder block at an Ohio prison last year.
Casey Pigge, 29, pleaded guilty to aggravated murder Monday for the killing of 26-year-old Luther Wade at Lebanon Correctional Institution last February, according to Warren County Prosecutor David Fornshell, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.
Pigge told investigators he blindfolded Wade to show him a card trick on Feb. 22. He then repeatedly struck Wade over the head with a cinder block taken from a cell wall, prosecutors said.
Pigge said he "wouldn't die," and when he stopped, Wade kept making noises, so he continued beating him with the cinder block, prosecutors said.
Corrections officers discovered Wade's body 10 minutes after the incident. They took him to a nearby hospital where died from his injuries.
Luther Wade, 26, of Springfield died Feb. 23 after he was beaten with a concrete block while an inmate at Lebanon Correctional Institution.
Wade was serving a 10-year prison sentence for aggravated burglary. His death came a day after he was transferred to Pigge's cell, investigators said.
Pigge is currently serving 30 years to life for aggravated murder from a 2009 case at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility.
Prosecutors ruled out the death penalty because of Pigge's low IQ and instead sought a life prison sentence without parole. They also did not comment on a motive for the slaying.
