A man arriving from the Dominican Republic allegedly tried to sneak three pounds of heroin into the country in his shoes.

Agents stopped Perez Beltran as he came through JFK Airport on a flight from the Dominican Republic on Wednesday when they noticed that three pairs of sneakers in his luggage were particularly heavy. They broke the sneakers open and found a tan, powdery substance that turned out to be heroin, officials said.

The three pounds of heroin have a street value of $90,000.

Agents turned Beltran over the the Department of Homeland Security and he will be federally prosecuted.
