A woman walking with her boyfriend in The Bronx Thursday was shot dead by her jealous ex-lover, sources said.
Kimberly Velasquez, 20, was walking by the Pelham Bay Houses at about 3 p.m. when her ex jumped out of a van intending to shoot the new boyfriend, but instead shot her in the chest, sources said.
Two men and a woman fled the scene in a fish-market van, a police source said.
Velasquez was pronounced dead at Jacobi Medical Center.
The shooting took place near PS 89 and Christopher Columbus HS. The killer was still at large late Thursday.
“Now that stop-and-frisk is gone, everybody’s carrying” weapons, a neighbor said.
“There’s no deterrent anymore. Nobody’s afraid about getting checked by cops. It’s out of control.”
