Jared Fogle’s humiliated wife of five years wants a divorce, she announced Wednesday as it was revealed that her husband is an admitted child sex pervert.
Katie McLaughlin said she was “in the process of seeking a dissolution” of the marriage.
“Obviously, I am extremely shocked and disappointed by the recent developments involving Jared,” McLaughlin, 36, said in a statement. “My focus is exclusively on the well-being of my children. Neither I nor my family will have any further comment on the matter.
“I appreciate respect for my family’s privacy during this difficult time.”
The couple has two children together, a 1-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son.
McLaughlin went to college with Fogle’s brother and had known the Subway sandwich spokesman for 10 years, she said in a 2010 YouTube video.
The two dated for a year before Fogle popped the question near their alma matter, Indiana University.
“She’s been so wonderful and caring. She’s just been the most supportive woman,” Fogle gushed about his then-wife to People in 2010. “I couldn’t ask for more.”
He was married once before, to Elizabeth Fogle, from 2001 to 2007.
Jared Fogle, 37, is reportedly worth $15 million after serving as Subway’s brand ambassador since 2000.
Subway was in the process of reworking Fogle’s family-man image before the child-porn allegations first surfaced in July, when feds raided his Zionsville, Ind., home, Bloomberg Business reported.
“My life has evolved,” Fogle told the publication in June. “The next step in my story is I have a family and a lot of parents can relate to that. You want to be a role model for your children, and obviously one of the most important things is maintaining the weight, keeping it off.”
Now it will be up to an Indiana court to decide whether Fogle — who will plead guilty at a later time to traveling to engage in illicit sex with minors and receiving child pornography — can see his kids.
“I’m not just a stagnant person like some of those other mascots,” Fogle told Bloomberg in June.
“I hope to be a great parent and a great role model for kids anywhere.”
