Morgan Freeman’s step-granddaughter was stabbed to death on a Manhattan sidewalk early Sunday, law-enforcement sources said.
Edena Hines, 33 — whose grandmother was the actor’s first wife — was stabbed several times in front of W. 162nd St. near St. Nicholas Avenue in Washington Heights just before 3 a.m., cops said.
When police arrived, they found her ex standing over her lifeless body as he screamed incoherently, sources said.
Hines was taken to Harlem Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
“The world will never know her artistry in talent, and how much she had to offer,” the grieving Freeman said in a statement. “Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known whatshe meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.”
Her alleged killer was arrested and taken to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, officials said.
