In what local investigators are underselling as a simple "logistical mistake," nearly $17 million in cocaine was mistakenly shipped to several Aldi locations inBerlin. The shipment reportedly originated in Colombia and arrived with little fanfare at fourteen separate locations in Berlin.
Aldi, a brand of discount grocery stories, says its employees stumbled upon thecocaine when unpacking banana boxes — a clever, health-conscious hiding spot for $16.8 million worth of coke. Though, let's be honest — the banana is obviously a gateway fruit.
The oddest detail in this story, however, is the fact that Aldi is actually no stranger at all to millions of dollars worth of cocaine just showing up at their doorstep. Not even four months ago, Aldi locations accepted $8.2 million worth of coke under strikingly similar circumstances. That batch reportedly tested at a purity rate of 55%, while the bananas were presumably uncut.
